There have been four DYP governments since its foundation; one led by Demirel, the other three by Turkey's first woman prime minister, Tansu Çiller. The party now has only 4 seats in parliament after faring badly in recent elections, when many voters defected to the similarly-conservative, albeit also moderate Islamist, Justice and Development Party (AKP). In the July 22nd, 2007 legislative elections, the party won 14.3% of the national vote and 71 seats in the parliament [1]. When it comes to recognizing minority rights MHP stands where all fascist parties stand. Total denial of all rights to non-Turks. In a country of more than twenty three ethnic groups MHP represents the Turkish supremacism. The present leadership by individuals such as Devlet Bahceli and Mehmet Sandir has focused on defending unitary state and a Turkish identity encompassing all of Turkey's citizens in the face of demands for a federal state reflecting regional ethnic differences It maintains consistent support among the electorate (especially in Central Anatolia), and has been on good terms with the Turkish Establishment due to its emphasis on a national identity that had been proposed by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk to replace tribal, sectarian, and ethnic allegiances that had been prevalent in Anatolia during the Ottoman Empire.

Göcek hosts four significant marinas that serve the yacht tourism in the region. A prominent characteristic of the town is the fact that it harbors islands and coves located in a large and secluded bay. Due to its location, it naturally enjoys a high potential for yacht tourism. Since Göcek is a Registered Area of Special Protection where multi-storey buildings are not allowed, the boarding facilities are two-storied hotels, motels, apart-hotels and pensions situated in the town center and its periphery. Göcek has all the necessary infrastructure, capacity and spaces expected in a tourism center, yet it is renowned as a much more peaceful and quiet settlement compared to other tourism areas. Göcek is situated on Dalaman – Fethiye highway. Until 2006, it was necessary to drive through a relatively narrow and winding road to reach Göcek from Dalaman. The 980 meters long Göcek vehicle tunnel completed in June 2006 has significantly increased the accessibility of the town. The vehicle tunnel is the first example of build-operate-transfer model and provides paid services.
